EGS, TruStar Developing Compressed Natural Gas Station for CityBus

Vectren Corp. subsidiary Energy Systems Group (ESG) and TruStar Energy are working together to construct a major new compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling station for the Greater Lafayette Public Transportation Corp. (aka CityBus) in Indiana.

CityBus, which provides transportation services to the Lafayette area and to Purdue University, is initially purchasing 11 new CNG-powered buses (six 40-footers and five transit buses). Plans call for the 100% conversion of CityBus' fleet – totaling 73 units – to CNG.

The contract to design and build the fast-fill CNG station is worth $3.2 million. The initial layout will include a dual compressor setup from ANGI Energy Systems, paired with two dual-hose dispensers and a six pack of CNG storage. TruStar says the site is being designed with room for expansion as the fleet of NGVs grows.

CityBus' facility will be the second CNG station that ESG has built in Indiana, while TruStar has constructed multiple sites in the state – most recently, for the Muncie Sanitary District.

EGS and TruStar will begin construction on the station this year, and they anticipate that it will be operational by March 2015.
