Massachusetts Fleet Shifting Handful of Vans to Hybrid Electric

Square One, a Springfield, Mass.-based nonprofit agency for families and children, is converting five of its gasoline-powered passenger vans to hybrid-electric vehicles with the assistance of XL Hybrids Inc.

‘The converted hybrid-electric vans will allow Square One to immediately save on fuel, reduce vehicle maintenance and support its green initiatives,’ says Tod Hynes, president and founder of XL Hybrids.

The XL3 Hybrid Electric System reduces a vehicle's fuel consumption by about 20%, according to the company.

The project is funded by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources as part of the Massachusetts Clean Cities initiative.
