Florida County Ready to Make a Move to CNG

The Board of Commissioners in St. Johns County, Fla., has approved a plan to build a new compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling station that will support the county's own fleet of NGVs, as well as be open to the public.

The Jacksonville Business Journal reports that the county is partnering with CNG station developer Nopetro LLC to build the facility, which still needs to be designed and permitted. The company's CEO, Jorge Herrera, says the station will be open within the next year.

Nopetro is financing the station development, backed by a 20-year commitment from the county government to use CNG from the facility.

The company also recently won a bid to build a CNG station for the school district in Charlotte County, Fla., which will be shifting an initial 30 school buses to CNG by 2016.
