Florida Transit Fleet Making Big Shift to Natural Gas

0

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA), one of Florida's largest public transit fleets, has finalized an agreement whereby Clean Energy Fuels Corp. will design, build and operate a compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling station for the organization.

JTA is eyeing the conversion of 100 buses from diesel to CNG, ultimately consuming an estimated 1 million DGE of CNG annually. In turn, the agreement also specifies that Clean Energy will handle comprehensive fleet facility modifications in order to facilitate JTA's conversion to heavy-duty natural gas vehicles.

The overall deal is valued at $8.1 million.

‘The CNG fueling facility is a 'win-win-win' for the Authority and the Jacksonville community,’ says JTA CEO Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. ‘We will reduce costs, improve the environment and create opportunities for other fleets to reap the benefits of CNG.’

The new station, which will be located at 100 N. Myrtle Ave. in Jacksonville, will be accessible to the public. Construction is scheduled to be completed late next year.
