Utah Awards New Funding to Support NGVs and EVs

The Utah Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has awarded $700,000 in new grants and low-interest loans to nine entities under its Clean Fuels Grant and Loan Program. The funding will help support the purchase of natural gas vehicles (NGVs) and electric vehicles (EVs), as well as increase alternative fuel infrastructure in the state.

‘I'm very pleased to be able to provide businesses, governments and several universities with funding to expand our capacity to provide alternative fuel vehicles in Utah,’ says Amanda Smith, executive director of the DEQ.

The recipients include the following:

1) CNG America: $200,000 loan for natural gas refueling equipment.

2) Wasatch Front Waste and Recycling District: $15,864 grant to purchase compressed natural gas refuse trucks.

3) Salt Lake City Corp.: $200,000 grant for 25 EV charging ports to be installed throughout the city; $141,847 grant for electric-hybrid vehicles, EVs and NGVs; and a $5,516 grant for three EV charging stations for its fleet.

4) University of Utah: $70,262 grant to purchase EVs, electric-hybrid vehicles and NGVs, as well as five EV charging stations.

5) Salt Lake Community College: $14,830 grant to purchase two EVs and one charging station.

6) Salt Lake County Office of Township Services: $9,085 grant to purchase one electric-hybrid vehicle.

7) Southern Utah University: $11,594 grant to purchase two EV charging stations.

8) Utah Valley University / Office of Energy Development: $5,066 grant to purchase two electric-hybrid vehicles.

9) Weber State University: $25,936 grant to purchase three electric-hybrid vehicles.
