UQM Technologies Inc., a manufacturer of electric motors and power electronics for the automotive market, has hired Joseph Mitchell as vice president of operations, where he will oversee all manufacturing, quality and purchasing operations for the company.

Prior to joining UQM, Mitchell was director of operations and quality for Continental Automotive's North American hybrid and electric drive business unit, where he led all North American manufacturing, manufacturing strategy, planning and global sourcing. His experience also includes senior management positions at Siemens VDO and Ballard Power Systems, as well as manufacturing and quality positions with Ford Motor Co.

UQM's product portfolio includes the PowerPhase Pro system, which CODA Automotive is using as a part of its electric propulsion systems.
