Mack Trucks announced today that it will begin offering natural gas engine options for its Pinnacle and Granite truck platforms beginning next year. For these models, compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel systems will complement the new Cummins Westport ISX12 G engine, which is scheduled to go into production in early 2013.

The natural gas-powered Pinnacle and Granite trucks will feature maintenance-free after-treatment and require only a three-way catalyst to meet EPA 2010 and CARB emissions standards, according to the company.

"Now customers within the regional haul, LTL and construction segments will have the benefits of natural gas combined with the power and performance they expect from Mack," said Kevin Flaherty, president of Mack Trucks North American Sales & Marketing, in a press release.

The company currently offers a natural gas option for its TerraPro low-entry and TerraPro cab-over refuse trucks. These models use the 9-liter Cummins Westport ISL G engine.
