DTE Energy has opened a new compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling station at the Padnos Iron & Metal facility in Wyoming, Mich. - the company's 13th public-access station in the state.

DTE Energy's Robert Bacyinski tells NGT News that Wixom, Mich.-based UBCR LLC will be the primary customer for the new facility, but AT&T has also expressed its intention to use the site to fuel its complement of new CNG vans. UBCR, which specializes in the transportation and processing of empty beverage containers, already has a fleet of 16 CNG trucks that collectively consume 450,000 gal. of fuel per year.

The new fast-fill station will likely pump more than 250,000 gal. of CNG annually, Bacyinski notes. The facility uses two Knox Western 600 cfm compressors that feed a pair of two-hose dispensers. There are two CT1000 nozzles for passenger vehicles and two CT5000 nozzles capable of delivering 10 gal./min. to accommodate large trucks.

DTE Energy has all of its CNG stations integrated through a credit-card reading network, and the stations also accept the major fleet cards via FuelForce controller technology. These pieces of equipment are keypad units, so the company can also offer fleet customers tailored fueling plans.

Detroit-based DeMaria Building Co. constructed the new Wyoming facility, Bacyinski says.
