Emterra Group, a Canadian waste management company, has signed a contract with the City of Winnipeg to begin providing services in October through the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) fleet vehicles.

Emterra's Winnipeg fleet totals 60 garbage collection vehicles, and a pipeline-fed time-fill station at Emterra’s facility will support fuel the trucks. The contract with Winnipeg is for the collection of a range of waste materials - recyclables, garbage, organic yard waste and bulk items.

The company notes that it plans to deploy a greater number of CNG refuse vehicles in Western Canada in the coming months.
