REG Begins Producing Biodiesel in Texas

Renewable Energy Group Inc. (REG) has initiated production of biodiesel at its new biorefinery in New Boston, Texas.

The company says this site, which is about 150 miles east of Dallas, was previously an active refinery but was dormant for four years. REG acquired the facility in November 2012 and began making significant upgrades to enable the use of fats, oils and greases as feedstock.

The output of the new plant – approximately 15 million gallons per year – will be marketed as REG-9000 brand biodiesel to petroleum distributors, truck stops and oil refiners, the company notes.

REG also operates another biorefinery in Houston and five other plants in Iowa, Illinois and Minnesota. The company's total annual production capacity is more than 225 million gallons.
