Ford Motor Co. says propane autogas versions of its Transit Connect Taxi will soon be deployed in Hong Kong, representing one of the first large-scale rollouts of the alt-fuel vehicle since announcing model-year 2014 advancements back in September.

The Transit Connect Taxi that will be in service in Hong Kong comes equipped with a Ford-engineered liquefied petroleum gas fuel system. The powertrain consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and Ford's new six-speed automatic transmission, and vehicle features include 60.5 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the second row of seating.

‘Ford Transit Connect Taxi has proven itself in taxi fleets across the U.S.,’ says Raj Nair, group vice president, global product development. ‘Now, we are building on that success, offering the vehicle for sale in even more markets, including global cities like Hong Kong.’

The Transit Connect is the only taxi in the U.S. that can be optioned with a compressed natural gas/propane autogas engine prep package. Ford Motor Co. Qualified Vehicle Modifiers handle the CNG and LPG conversions.
