SPADP: 1,189 Vehicles Make the Shift to Propane Autogas

0

The Southeast Propane Autogas Development Program (SPADP), launched in 2009 and administered by Virginia Clean Cities, has come to its conclusion, resulting in the conversion of more than 1,000 vehicles to run on propane.

Like its Clean Start Propane Refueling, Vehicle Incentive & Outreach Program counterpart – which also wrapped up recently – the SPADP was a key alternative fuel vehicle and fueling infrastructure initiative supported by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The SPADP was the larger of the two alt-fuel programs, involving 36 fleets across 12 states.

According to Virginia Clean Cities, the 1,189 propane vehicle conversions performed under the program represent more than 47,000 hours of labor, and the vehicles collectively displace about 1.2 million gallons of gasoline annually.

Public and private fleet participants included Groome Transportation; Virginia Premier Health Plan; the City of Newport News, Va.; Spotsylvania County, Va.; Red Top Cab; and a number of sheriff's offices. All of the vehicles that were converted feature the Prins VSI propane autogas system.
