Heavy-Duty Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles to Come Online in CA Ports

Vision Industries has finalized a contract with the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) for a demonstration project that will involve the deployment of four Vision Tyrano hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

Total Transportation Services Inc. (TTS-I) will be operating these drayage trucks through SCAQMD's Zero Emission Cargo Transportation initiative. Partial funding came through a $950,000 U.S. Department of Energy grant, and Vision says it is applying to receive matching funds from the California Energy Commission to subsidize its cost share in the program.

Vision, which is working toward a similar agreement for the demonstration of 20 fuel-cell trucks at the Port of Houston, says the demonstration program in California will run for two years.
