Class 8 Trucking Company Begins Dual-Fuel Natural Gas Deployment

0

Foodliner, a heavy-duty carrier serving the bulk-food industry, has deployed its first five dual-fuel natural gas Freightliner Cascadia trucks in partnership with Diesel 2 Gas Inc. (D2G), Fitzgerald Glider Kits and Agility Fuel Systems.

The sleeper-cab trucks can run on up to 60% compressed natural gas (CNG) and 40% diesel with the D2G DualFlex+ system, the company says. Other equipment on the vehicles includes CNG tanks from Agility paired with Detroit Diesel Series 60 engines rated at 500 hp. The five Cascadias are also equipped with D2G's integrated electronic cruise control.

D2G says the 60% gas substitution will result in ‘one of the lowest-fuel-cost trucks in America while maintaining all of the original diesel performance.’ The DualFlex+ system defaults to 100% diesel in the absence of CNG, the company notes.

Foodliner operates in 48 U.S. states, Canada and Mexico.
