NY Transit Fleet Buying 20 Compressed Natural Gas Buses

Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA), the transit agency serving Buffalo, N.Y., and the surrounding area, is acquiring 20 Nova LFS buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG).

Nova Bus says the initial $11 million contract has an option to expand to 166 CNG buses over the next five years.

‘We are very much looking forward to the arrival of our CNG buses as part of our continuing Going Green initiative,’ says Kimberley A. Minkel, executive director of NFTA. ‘They will substantially reduce our carbon footprint and provide welcome operating efficiencies for our Metro fleet.’

The first 20 CNG buses, which are replacing buses that were purchased between 1996 and 2000, will be in service in the Buffalo-Niagara region in early 2016, NFTA says.
