Ballard to Supply New Flyer Industries with Power Module for Fuel Cell Bus

Ballard Power Systems says it has received from New Flyer Industries a purchase order for its first next-generation FCvelocity-HD7 fuel cell power module.

The module will be used in a next-generation New Flyer Industries fuel cell bus that will be sent to Altoona, Pa., for testing and qualification prior to being deployed into revenue service under the U.S. Federal Transit Administration National Fuel Cell Bus Program.

Delivery is planned for later this year. The project will be administered by CALSTART, a member-supported organization dedicated to clean transportation alternatives.

Ballard and New Flyer Industries have worked together before, having powered fuel cell buses dating back to the first-ever prototype fuel cell bus in 1991, says Ballard. More recently, the companies partnered on the operation of BC Transit's fuel cell demonstration fleet of 20 buses.
