Westport has debuted a new 3.8-liter engine that runs on natural gas or propane and is initially aimed at off-road and stationary applications.

The engine, which uses EPA- and CARB-certified fuel system technology, offers Westport's WP580 electronic control unit, in addition to injectors and regulators from Westport-owned companies OMVL and EMER. It produces 100 kW of power (134 hp) and 347 N-m (256 lb.-ft.) of torque.

The company notes that the engine can be used in a number of mobile applications, including airport service vehicles, construction vehicles (e.g., loaders and excavators), forklifts, street sweepers and more.

Westport says the new engine will be available for order in the first quarter of 2015. For more information, contact Cristian Vasile at cvasile@westport.com.
