Refuse and recycling company Republic Services has added 14 compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks to its fleet in suburban Seattle (the greater Eastside, specifically), bringing the company's total CNG-powered fleet in the Puget Sound, Washington, area to 109 units.

Republic Services installed a natural gas refueling station at its Bellevue, Wash., facility in 2010. This station recently underwent an expansion in order to accommodate a higher number of heavy-duty natural gas vehicles.

The company serves more than 150,000 households and nearly 11,000 commercial customers in the Puget Sound area, including King County municipalities such as Bellevue, Kenmore, North Bend and Sammamish. Republic Services also processes recycled items for the city of Seattle.

Nationwide, the company operates a fleet of more than 2,200 CNG vehicles and 38 natural gas fueling stations. Approximately 50% of all Republic vehicles purchased in 2014 are powered by CNG.
